Facts

The appellant, referred to as A R, is a Pakistani national born in 2004 who worked as an Imam near the village of Raniya. He met H.M. when she delivered food to the mosque, and the two formed a secret relationship. His own family approved the proposed marriage, but H.M.'s family objected on the basis that he was an Imam with a limited income and that the match would not be socially acceptable. The couple married in Mirpur on 10 May 2023 in the presence of two friends and members of the appellant's family. He says that the day after the wedding H.M.'s father, M.H., and her brother, A.M., telephoned him and threatened to kill him, and that men sent by the family later attended his home and grabbed his father; alternatively, he says a land and property dispute arose, with A.M. pressing him to divorce H.M. so as to obtain control of land. Having relocated within Mirpur, he travelled to the United Kingdom, arriving on 27 November 2023. He was encountered by immigration officers while working as a delivery driver, his visa was revoked and he was detained at Harmondsworth. The Secretary of State refused his protection claim on 27 March 2026 and he appealed to the First-tier Tribunal.
