Dr Dean Patterson v General Medical Council

Facts

The claimant, Dr Dean Patterson, is a consultant general physician with an interest in cardiology, registered with the GMC and based in Guernsey, where he provided secondary care through the Medical Specialist Group LLP. He is of good character and had never previously been investigated by the GMC. During the Covid-19 pandemic he developed concerns about vaccine safety, in particular a suspected causal link with myocarditis and pericarditis, and posted prolifically on social media. MSG disciplined him in December 2023 over that activity and over transfers of patient data to his own company, Sellogic Ltd. In February 2024 he wrote an open letter to the GMC's Chair, Charlie Massey, which the Guernsey health authorities said contained factual errors and patient-identifying material; he declined to correct it. Two "Maintaining High Professional Standards" investigations followed, together with an invited review by the Royal College of Physicians, which graded four of the cases reviewed unsatisfactory and identified twelve themes including misdiagnosis driven by confirmation bias, over-investigation and advice against further vaccination. Following a referral by Dr Rabey, the Interim Orders Tribunal suspended the claimant from practice for 12 months on 20 February 2026 while the GMC investigates. He challenged that decision by Part 8 proceedings in the Administrative Court.
