R v Tyrone Jugessur

Facts

The appellant, Tyrone Jugessur, was sentenced by Mr Recorder Gregory Bull KC at the Crown Court at Cardiff on 1 April 2026 to a total of 40 months' imprisonment for nine offences arising out of three separate sets of offending. The first set concerned the theft of a Ford Transit van from Mr Butt, a carpenter, on 29 July 2025, committed with a co-defendant; the appellant removed a 17-week old puppy from the van before driving it away with Mr Butt's tools inside, and also handled the stolen van. The second set, committed the following day, involved the theft of Mr Evans's Hyundai, driven away in convoy with the van while the appellant was disqualified and uninsured; he was arrested after running from the van and discarding blank Ford key fobs and an OBD reader. The third set arose in December 2025: criminal damage on 13 December, when during an argument he smashed his former partner Ms Smith's phone and broke her car key, and dangerous driving on 31 December, when he repeatedly rammed the car she was driving, again whilst disqualified and uninsured. He was disqualified for 3 years. He appealed against sentence with the leave of the single judge.
