Nebahat Evyat Işbilen v Selman Turk & Ors
Checked against the judgment on 16 October 2026 · how we verify
Facts
Mrs Işbilen is claimant in two related sets of proceedings that are being case managed and tried together. The first is against her former adviser, Mr Selman Turk, who she says was entrusted with some US$90m and, in breach of trust, dealt with it in his own interest. The second is against Hanson Asset Management Limited, into whose account in her name certain of those monies were paid. About €28m was then paid out on 21 April 2017 to a Cayman Islands fund, the Sentinel Fund, on instructions from Mr Turk and his business partner, Mr Lewis. Mrs Işbilen alleges that this was in breach of mandate and part of a dishonest scheme, and that Hanson dishonestly assisted Mr Turk's breaches of duty. By then Hanson was being absorbed into a group that included two Bulgarian companies, EuroHold Bulgaria AD and Euro-Finance AD. Four senior employees of those companies were at times directors of Hanson and used the Bulgarian companies' email addresses. Their emails were collected and hosted in England by Interpath, and a subset was reviewed for Hanson disclosure. Letters of Request under the 1970 Hague Evidence Convention produced little. On 28 August 2026 Mrs Işbilen applied, shortly before the Pre-Trial Review and with an 11-week trial due to begin on 16 November 2026, for third party disclosure against the two Bulgarian companies, based on key word searches of the emails held by Interpath. The companies resisted, supported by Mr Turk and Hanson.
